R.I.P. Linsanity (2012-2012)

It feels like it was only a few short weeks ago that the media and fans were falling all over themselves and getting caught up in the Jeremy Lin hype machine. The New York Knicks were struggling big time, until a savior in the form of an unheralded point guard out of Harvard, led them to a remarkable turnaround.

That seems like a distant memory now, as the Knicks have crashed back to Earth. Lin's energy and play led the Knicks to 7 straight wins, way back in February. They would end up going 9-3 in the twelve games leading up to the All-Star break. Lin was the talk of more than the just the sports world, he was even the subject of a Top Ten list by David Letterman. Now, the world waits to hear where Peyton Manning will sign.

The Knicks are back to being the Knicks, their most recent loss marked their fifth in a row. Lin's incredible run began with stars Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire missing games. They're back, and the chemistry between Lin and Anthony seems non-existent. Lin's turnovers are catching up with him. The signing of J.R. Smith also hasn't panned out.

New York is not an easy city to make a name for yourself. Lin did, and found out how bright the lights can be. Now he's finding out how quickly they can be dimmed. The Knicks might be able to right the ship and start winning some games again. They're clinging on the 8th seed the Eastern Conference, even though they're five games below .500.

Regardless of whether or not the Knicks finish the season strong or not, this team has left us all with something that won't ever be taken away. The memory of 5 weeks of Linsanity. R.I.P. Linsanity, Feb 2012-March 2012.
