Has Judd Apatow Saved Movie Comedy?

Judd Apatow and his merry band of comedy comrades have become the go to guys in the noughties for movie tomfoolery. Jason Segal has single handidly revived The Muppets and made them cool again, Jonah Hill is no longer fat and now an Oscar Nominated actor (WTF!), Seth Rogen is an action hero and Paul Rudd has become the American Hugh Grant.

Apatow's stamp is clear to see throughout all of these movies, OK maybe not Moneyball but I'm pretty sure there is a deleted scene where Brad Pitt smokes weed with Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and it's his brand of childish yet risky humour that iss filled with heart which has warmed American hearts over the last decade.

Yet audiences are still divided over whether these new comedy deities should be held in such high esteem. So with this months release of Wanderlust starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd and produced by Apatow here are a number of reason to both love and loathe the bearded buffoon.

Ensemble Casts.

Say what you want about either Knocked Up or The 40 Year Old Virgin but the ensemble casts that these films possess are pretty spectacular. Each co-star no matter how small their billing has gone on to bigger and brighter things with Elizabeth Banks and Jonah Hill each beginning their ascent to comedy stardom from this hallowed position.

Hot Women.

Leslie Mann, Emma Stone, Kristen Bell, Maya Rudolph and a humongous Kathryn Heigl have each made those unbearable Apatow moments that little bit more alluring with their screen presence. The lack of nips is a little disheartening though.

Relatable Leading Men.

Us fat, lazy and unhygienic slobs are always looking for the quick fix solution. We don't want to have to bathe, shave or get a real job to seduce women, that's why Apatow's leading men always given us hope that a witty one liner will someday help us fine the woman of our dreams.

They're Too Long and Predictable.

Of course most of these films follow the exact same path story wise and you can end up getting tremendously bored waiting for the conclusion to a story you worked out an hour and a half ago to finally arrive.

Too Much Heart.

At the core of each Apatow movie is a heart of gold but sometimes these feelings can shine through a little too brightly and leave you feeling nauseated. To the point where you just want to watch someone blow up and die.

They Make Us Overly Ambitious.

Face it, women like Kathryn Heigl are never gonna talk to you. Just move on and settle down with a MelissaMcCarthy type.
