When you are growing up in the suburbs your food options are somewhat limited to big chains. I know that I took many a date to the Olive Garden and they loved that shit. It was fine Italian food in suburban Texas, let me tell you. But then I moved to New York City which is one of the culinary capitals of the world. You can get any kind of food here you could ever want. Still, those chain restaurants are still here, mainly in Times Square. It's so that the a-hole tourists that come here can never leave their comfort zone while visiting a scary new place that's different from Omaha or whatever. Many of these tourists are in New York for the New Year and I guess that's who Olive Garden is running a $400 prix fixe menu for. For that amount you get four pasta dishes, an open bar, a DJ spinning, and a champagne toast at midnight.
Now, maybe I'm just a cynical New Yorker, but why in the name of F would you go to the Olive Garden for New Year's Eve when you literally have ANYWHERE else you can go? The $.99 pizza on 9th avenue is better than the crap at the Olive Garden. I will never understand this. Never.
