Sonic the Hedgehog Takes Part in Movember, And it’s a Snarkin’ Good Time

Here we are in the second half of November, or Movember as some of you more charitable types may know it. Yep, you there, sitting at your PC/smartphone/tablet/other screen sporting facial fuzz that the local hobos would be ashamed of, I'm talking to you. Good for you, sacrificing a month's shaving for such a great cause and all, but let's be frank: that's a pretty shit beard you've got right there.

But hell, that's what it's all about. Making an ass of yourself for charity. Like that ice bucket business a while back. You can't argue with that. It's such a great idea that even Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog are getting in on the action.

As the nineties kids among us will know, these two mascots have a long history of rivalry. As do their fans. How many times was I pantsed at recess for supporting the wrong side in the Nintendo vs Sega debate? Too damn many, that's how many. Console wars have evolved a little since those days (if by ‘evolved' you mean ‘degenerated into swearing at each other in Youtube comment section tirades'), but the two companies never learned to get along.

Now they're at it again, competing over who's grown the studliest Movember mustache. Because sometimes, company interns running Twitter accounts have too much damn time on their hands.

Sega started the whole thing, with a Tweet claiming Eggman (that's Doctor Robotnik to us old dudes) would win the Stache Clash with Mario. The resultant tit-for-tat is the best example of nineties snark you'll find anywhere, other than Will's fat jokes at Uncle Phil's expense:

Ah, nostalgia.
