We all know that for his last few films David Fincher has used Nine Inch Nails frontman and moody dude Trent Reznor to write his film scores. But one Fincher film that Reznor did not work on was Fight Club. The tale of Tyler Durden and his pal starting a revolution through boxing and soap was scored by the Dust Brothers. Now it seems the Fincher is trying to remedy the situation by teaming up with Reznor to write a rock opera version of Fight Club for the stage. According to Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk this is happening. I'm not entirely sure how the film about a guy with a split personality that starts an underground fight club will translate to the stage.
I think this is one of the goofier ideas to come down the entertainment pipeline in a while. Not every popular movie needs to be adapted to the stage. In fact, most movies are OK being movies. Especially ones that involve violence. How are they going to blow up the city of Wilmington, DE at the end of a play? Will the actors sing a Pixies song too as the towers fall? I need to lie down.
