In what is quite possibly the best news to come out surrounding the hype of Basic Instint 2, Sharon Stone has said that she will not reprise her role of Catherine Tramell in the next planned sequel: Basic Instinct 3. According to Virgin News (ironically enough), Stone hopes to see her new co-star, David Morrissey, carry on the franchise.

"I'm hoping David will carry the flag," she said.

"I'll just go to the movies to watch it and say: 'Yeah baby!'"

Stone also commented on the difficulty of recreating the success of the original 1992 hit. "The un-crossing of the legs scenes with Michael Douglas was a very impactful moment," she explained.

"I can't imagine that we're going to create a similar or groundbreaking moment."

She continued, however: "The scene at the beginning with Stan Collymore is very strong.

"The film makes an equally powerful and dangerous statement about my character Catherine this time. She uses her sexuality in a dangerous way."

So why am I happy that Sharon Stone won't be in a third Basic Instinct film? Well, despite how good you may or may not think she looks now, let's just say that by the time a third movie roles around, she will be well past her prime, and then you definitely won't want to see any "disturbing sex scenes."

Of course, without Sharon Stone to headline, can anyone say "direct to video?"

If you need any help with the visual of what Sharon Stone ight look like in a few years time, just take a look at her in this ill-fitting dress, in these pictures from the Madrid premiere of Basic Instinct 2. And if you're feeling particularly masochistic, there's a whole lot more after the jump.
