What is easily the best part of the Star Wars prequels? Darth Maul. The Sith warrior with the jacked up teeth and bad attitude stole The Phantom Menace even though he was only onscreen for a few minutes. Then, because George Lucas is insane, he kills him off like a punk at the end of the movie. What a friggin' waste. Mistake #300,000 of the prequels. In the years since its release, fans have clamored for more Darth Maul stories. The Clone Wars cartoon even brought him back to life as a mechanical spider dude...which is admittedly weird, but still. I've actually seen several fan films with Maul and they mostly suck. Because most fan films suck. But not this one. It is called Darth Maul: Apprentice and it took two years for T7Production to make this short and probably a lot of money. The production value isn't quite Disney level, of course, but it's probably the best fan film I've ever seen.
The film starts out with Darth Maul hanging out in some hidden Sith lair training. When a group of Jedi show up looking for a disturbance in the Force, they discover Maul...and all hell breaks loose. There is some of the best lightsaber fighting I've ever seen and Maul rules all ass in it.
