Well, damn. The rose-tinted glasses are strong with this one.

Back in the day, the Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game was the best damn thing I ever played. I wasn’t all that smart back then, true enough; thinking I was a badass with my huge freaking housebrick-sized Walkman and clothes that the Fresh Prince would think were too damn bright. But I knew what I liked.

What I liked most of all was this Golden Ax/Streets of Rage-esque scrolling brawler. These were always a big deal in the arcades of the 90s, but I have a soft, nostalgic spot in my happy parts for this one. So much so, I’ve even forgiven what a completely effing ridiculous concept the ninja turtles are in the first place.

As you’ll probably know, Out of the Shadows hits theaters June 3. What does that mean? It means it’s movie-tie-in-o-clock, that’s what the hell it means. Gents, meet Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan.

This cel-shaded hack and slash tie-in arrives May 24, and will no doubt be much worse than the arcade game I have such a boner for. Still, it’s coming at us from the well-renowned Platinum Games, so maybe it’ll be worth something after all. To get an idea of what’s on offer, let’s take an ogle at clearly the best turtle, Donatello, in action:
