Disney is obviously cleaning house with its Lucasfilm properties by cancelling the horrifically bad Star Wars: The Clone Wars series on the Cartoon Network. Let's face it, there is a lot of fat to trim on the mess of a franchise created by jowl beast George Lucas. In 2003 Genndy Tartakovsky created a fantastic micro Clone Wars mini-series. It was reallllly good. Like, won Emmys good. So, when they announced that they were creating a full series in 2008 I was excited. Then I went to see the full length theatrical release Clone Wars movie. You know, the one where Anakin and his new padawan Ahsoka, AKA "Snips", go save Jabba the Hutt's slug baby Rotta, AKA 'Stinky'.
Did you block that from your memory like the time your scout master asked you to stay late and...Um...anyway, it was bad. So bad that it felt like George Lucas was repeatedly kicking me in the balls until my inner little boy who loved Star Wars died.
This gives me hope about the upcoming films. Maybe they will suck. Maybe I'll feel that pain in the balls again, only this time administered by a cartoon mouse. But if they had the foresight to cancel a profitable series like The Clone Wars because it just plain sucks it gives me hope that they will exercise similar caution with the next Star Wars films.
