The return of Mortal Kombat to the airwaves (or intertubes, as you will) is a strange tale. The web-series Mortal Kombat: Legacy came to life after choreography Kevin Tancharoen made a proof-of-concept short-film with the Mortal Kombat characters called Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. The short didn't precipitate a new feature, but it did get Warner Bros. execs to greenlight a web series first and now the second season has a trailer, which you can watch above.
The ten episodes airing on Machinima continues the story of the world's greatest warriors who are brought together to compete in a mystical fighting competition.
The Mortal Kombat Legacy continues in Season 2 as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kenshi, and Ermac join the ranks. The rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors will unfold as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. The epic battle for Earthrealm has finally begun.
Well, not sure what any of that means, but as someone who didn't mind that first movie and avoided any of its sequels, even I was impressed by Tancharoen's short film, which you can watch below.
