Back in the early nineties, things were simpler. It was a world of questionable hair/clothes, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and cell phones the size of breezeblocks. It was generally a damn good time to be alive, mostly because whining pop ballaches like Bieber and One Direction were still fetuses.
But you know what sucked for a tweenage gamer growing up in that era? Family vacations, that's what. There was no bringing my Genesis or SNES, that was for damn sure. What did I have for entertainment? My huge chunky-ass Walkman and even more chunky-ass Game Boy. By the second week, I was twitching and sweating like a junkie to get back to my consoles.
So, my question to you all: Where in the name of Satan's scrote was The Arcade Hotel when I needed it?
Feast your eyes on this Amsterdam hotel. It calls itself ‘Thelonious Monk meets the Eames couple meets Marty McFly and they all have a drink with Captain Sparrow; gaming, mid-century design and a lot of heart & soul under one roof,' and it looks like a nerdly game nerd's paradise.
As this post over on Marineford tells us, there are consoles in every room, handhelds in the lobby, and a library of comic books too:
Owner Daniel Salmanovich says that he's "remodelling this hotel into a special place for people who love gaming. I wanted to create a place where travelers and gamers feel like they are staying at a friends home." It's looking pretty damn awesome to me.
