A few days ago we lost David Bowie, one of the greatest talents of the last 50 years. I wasn't around for Ziggy Stardust and the Thin White Duke so like a lot of people of my generation I became aware of Bowie in the classic puppet classic Labyrinth. In it he plays Jareth the Goblin King who holds a baby prisoner while a young girl, played by hottie Sarah Connelly, tries to conquer a maze and get him back. In retrospect, the movie is a little creepy. Bowie, who at the time was in his forties, falls in love with a fifteen year old girl and kidnaps a baby. Not to mention all of the creepy rubber puppets. The movie also featured the talents of the legendary Jim Henson, George Lucas before he sucked, and Monty Python's Terry Jones for some reason.
Bowie's performance is singular. And his package is out of control. So, let's all remember the Goblin King on more time.
