I've heard this rumor so many times that I assumed it must be true. But the Australian website The Irisis quoting Benedict Cumberbatch directly denying that he will be part of the next Star Wars film.

"I would've liked a part in JJ's new Star Wars but it won't happen sadly," Cumberbatch said during a Q&A session at Oz Comic-Con, referring to J.J Abrams who is directing.

This news comes as production on the much anticipated film has already begun. The sequel picks up 30 years after Return of the Jedi, and follows a new group of new characters as well as some old favorites. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew and Harrison Ford are all said to be attached. But then again, the same was said about Benedict Cumberbatch, so let's not count our womp rats before they hatch. Do womp rats hatch?

The film is currently scheduled for theaters in December of 2015. (Source)
