David Fincher in Talks to Direct a Steve Jobs Biopic that Doesn’t Star Ashton Kutcher

The other day when I said Sony is really focusing on book adaptations and biopics, I wasn't kidding. According to Variety, they're developing a Steve Jobs biopic based on Steve Jobs, an unauthorized biography by Walter Isaacson.

Of course, at this point you might be thinking, "hey, didn't they just make a Steve Jobs biopic last year?" And of course, the answer is yes, they did. However, Hollywood studio execs tend not to worry about little things like redundancy—especially when they know for a fact that their version of an idea will be better than the last one.

But how does Sony know their biopic will be better than 2013's Jobs? Well, for one thing it presumably won't star Ashton Kutcher. For another thing, they've already got Aaron Sorkin writing it, and David Fincher, Sorkin's directing parter from The Social Network, is in talks to direct. So yeah, the chances of this Jobs biopic being better than the last one are approximately 100%.

Unfortunately, at this point we still don't know what the Sony project will be called. However, Sorkin did reveal the basic structure of the film in an interview with The Daily Beast, and it's pretty unconventional:

This entire movie is going to be three scenes, and three scenes only, that all take place in real time... Each of these three scenes is going to take place before a product launch—backstage before a product launch. The first one being the Mac, the second one being NeXT (after he had left Apple), and the third one being the iPod.

So to summarize—Steve Jobs, Aarson Sorkin, David Fincher, three scenes, real time.

This should be interesting.
