After over a year of development limbo, today there is good news for fans of campy science fiction programming about sexy female space rangers. The Barbarella TV series has been picked up by Amazon Studios.
In case you were born yesterday—or, say, some time after 1975—Barbarella was a 1968 sci-fi film starring Jane Fonda. It's about a sexy babe from the year 40,000 who gets sent to track down and capture an evil space scientist. From there it gets pretty hard to follow, but basically there is lots of sex and skimpy outfits and, at one point, even some sort of "orgasm chamber" that's supposed to kill Barbarella with pleasure. So yes, this is a TV show you are going to want to watch.
Right now, of course, we don't know that much about the show. Officially Amazon has just acquired the script for the pilot, which was penned by Neal Pervis and Robert Wade of Skyfall fame. But they still need to hire a showrunner and—most importantly—a cast before they even begin filming. But it's almost certainly going to happen now, so feel free to start fantasizing about who might wind up in the lead role.
