Happy Friday! Here’s A Whole Lot Of Video Game Characters Drowning

  It’s Friday, gents! How do you celebrate the end of the weekly worktastic? With a good ol’ session at the local drinkatorium, probably. That works damn well for me. It’s a bit of a cliché though, don’t you think? How about something a little different. A little more… freaking creepy-ass and sadistic.  

Yep. Let’s kick off the weekend in style, with a compilation of drowning video game characters. It makes perfect sense.

YouTube, as we know, is awash with weirdness. Remember that channel dedicated to a guy destroying expensive new electronics –cell phones, consoles, whatever—in a microwave? That’s a thing. This dude has fans (Ego-disclaimer: he’s also a ‘professional microwaver,’ and doesn’t want you to try this dumb shit at home; nor do we). But this? This is a step too far. The madness has to end.

Mikhail Emmerich, or Dextorin, has dedicated two years of his life to giving us a darn good ogle at characters drowning. He’s recorded over 80 clips of such, from games as varied as Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario 64, World of Warcraft and Tomb Raider. Because it’s the Internet, that’s why.

Now, natch, when you log onto YouTube with a hankering to watch some drowning, you want it done right. You don’t want it half-assed. Our buddy Dextorin’s got us covered, GameSpot reports: ‘The committed YouTuber shows the entire process: from diving into water, right up to the character suffocating.’ So I’m relieved.

It all sounds a little serial killer-ish, the kind of thing that’d get you put on some secret police watch list somewhere. According to Emmerich, though, it wasn’t supposed to be this way:

‘To be honest, I had no intention of having it turn into what it did… what started with a buddy and I screwing around with a capture card, suddenly turned into a channel where I was getting requests. One video turned into five, and then ten... next thing I know it is nearing 80. Much to the collective 'WTF' of the internet, as I am now finding out.’

WTF about sums it all up, really.
