Netflix and Marvel premiered the trailer for their new series Iron Fist at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday and it is already controversial. Even though the original character from the comic books is White, many Asian-American actors were lobbying for Netflix to cast an Asian actor to play the martial arts fighting superhero. I can see where it would have been cool for there to have been an Asian Marvel superhero with his own TV show, however if that's not what the character is like then why change it? The show stars Game of Thrones' Finn Jones, (he played the late Knight of the Flowers). The story tells of a young man who is taught how to fight by some warrior monks in the magical land of K’un Lun. He then returns to New York City to avenge his father and fight crime. You know, like you do.
Controversy aside I'm excited to see this. Iron Fist isn't the biggest Marvel property but that's OK. I'm kind of tired of seeing the same old characters with the same old origin stories. Let's go for some deep cuts.
