Batman: The Killing Joke, the latest animated movie based on the classic comic book by Alan Moore, came out last month and immediately caused a great deal of controversy. It's understandable given the subject matter. Spoiler alert, but it is dark as hell. In it, the Joker kidnaps Batgirl and tortures her in a particularly sadistic way. The problem is that the filmmakers extended the violence and put a bunch of stuff at the beginning fleshing out Batgirl at the top of the movie. That's where the real controversy lies. A lot of people had a problem with it. I admit I wasn't totally comfortable with it. Let the good folks at Honest Trailers explain why.
It's a shame because I was really looking forward to liking the movie. That's the problem with DC properties. They are either too dark and serious or they are silly and can't be taken seriously.
