When I was a kid, there was a word for grown adult men who were into pop culture designed for little girls: Weirdos. Now there's a word for them to help them feel less stigmatized: Bronies. Bronies are grown adult men who are obsessed with My Little Pony, and I've got good news for the handful of Bronies that are sure to be reading this post: The first trailer for My Little Pony: The Movie is here, and it's likely packed to the brim with stuff you'll go nuts over.
Never underestimate a company's ability to keep a brand alive for the better part of forever. My Little Pony was first introduced by Hasbro in the early 80s and has really never gone away since. It's been reimagined and rebranded a number of times, but it's been an obsession amongst little girls and weirdos—sorry, Bronies—for nearly forty years.
If you're a fan of the franchise, you'll be happy to know that it's in solid hands. The film's director is a veteran of the MLP: Friendship is Magic series, having directed over 100 episodes and direct-to-video movies over the last five years. The voice cast is also filled with familiar names like Emily Blunt, Zoe Saldana, Kristin Chenoweth, Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba, and singer Sia. If you're a parent, you're sure to get dragged to this one in October, so rest easy in the knowledge that the project seems to be in good hands. And if you're a Brony, try and contain your excitement while in the theater, because the parents will most assuredly be watching you rather than the movie. My Little Pony: The Movie opens on October 6.
