You'd think a game where Frank Gore amassed 201 yards of offense alone would produce some points, but we are talking about the NFC West, which has four of the top five defenses in the NFL in points per game allowed. So of course the game ended with one lone TD, by a guy who nobody in their right mind started on their fantasy team.
Gore and Seattle's Marshawn Lynch put on a hell of a show with Gore chewing up 151 yards on the ground and Lynch getting 103. The quarterbacks, on the other hand, well they were brutal. If someone read the stat line of 23 for 46 for 262 yards with one TD and two interceptions, you'd think it was bad but maybe not awful. Well, those are Russell Wilson and Alex Smith's COMBINED stats for the night. Wilson was 9 of 23 for 122 yards and a pick, and Smith was 14 of 23 for 140 with a TD and pick.
When Niners coach Jim Harbaugh declined that late penalty that would have given the Niners a safety and a nine point lead, everyone who had money on San Francisco lost their collective shit and a lot of money. Some estimates are that the worldwide swing in bets was around $75 million. Gambling on sports can be a fun thing, and it can be something that makes you want to pull your eyeballs out in anger, all because of a coach's decision. Fun, right?
