X-Men 3: The Last Stand - Egotastic! Approved!

02:40 AM, Filed under: Home \ Movies \ X-Men

X-Men 3: The Last Stand Pictures - Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen
Well, I just got back from the 12:01 am screening of X-Men 3: The Last Stand. No, my Elite Blogger status did not grant me access to any special sneak peeks, but my Elite Nerd status made sure I was waiting in line 3 hours before the show started.

So, was it good? Well, if you are a fan of the first two X-Men movies, you have nothing to fear going into this one. Yes, it's true, in the case of X-Men fans vs. Brett Ratner, the director aquitted himself nicely. It could be the post-movie adrenaline talking here, or the caffeine from that 1.5 litre Coca-Cola, but I might even go so far as to say it's better than the others. Yes, I really did just say that.

The action was great, but there was still a lot of the character development, and pacing that made the first two movies what they were. Story-wise, this movie takes a lot of chances, and they pay off, big time. Sure, there were a few cheesey lines, but they were few and far between, and the best characters are still the best characters.

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was as good as ever, Ian McKellen once again kicks ass as Magneto, and no one can replace Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier. Even Halle Berry as Storm finally got her moment to shine, though the lameness of the character was hard to overcome, so it's not really her fault, though, she could have tried to bring a little more life to it. New characters like Kitty Pryde played by Ellen Page, Juggernaut played by Vinnie Jones, and, of course, Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Hank McCoy (aka Beast) were great additions that added new life to the series. There were also a ton of secondary mutant characters that were pretty cool too.

I'm not going to spoil any plot points for you, but I will say this: Stay till the end. Stay past the end. After the credits there's an extra scene that you don't want to miss. Trust me.

Of course, it wouldn't be Egotastic! if we didn't have a ton of pictures of sexy stars, so here's Halle Berry, Rebecca Romijn and the rest of the cast at the X-Men premiere in Cannes. And check out Shawn Ashmore (Bobby Drake aka Ice Man) totally scoping out Halle Berry's cleavage in the first pic. That's classic. Way, way more pictures after the jump.

The movie Kicked total butt. I loved every minute of it. Egotastic, sorry but while the thing at the end of the credits was worth waiting for, I dont' think it was all it was cracked up to be.

You have a lot of picks of Storm and Mystique but what about Jean? I.e. Famke Janssen

Posted by: Dan Perry at May 26, 2006 09:15 AM

yo, i went to preschool with Ellen Page (kitty pryde) and played soccer on her team! She is all that and a great up and comming Canadian actress!

Posted by: Hometown Pryde at May 26, 2006 10:43 AM

Storm is actually a great character, and Halle Berry was a poor pick. Iman (she was the shapeshifter in Trek 6) fit the role better (tall, exotic, nice accent).

i know this is going to sound strange, but i live in kuwait and saw x-men on wednesday. i loved it. i thought it deviated from the comic in a few ways but kicked butt. i loved all of the twists. however, they stop films in kuwait before the credits end. so i don't know what happens at the end. could someone please tell me? please email if you can.
thanks,
jeff

Dammit dammit dammit. I saw the movie early yesterday evening and didn't know about the post credits thing. Can someone either post a comment at my webpage or comment here with what is at the end?

umm what is in rebecca's mouth in the 5th photo? It's grey!

Okay

Singer must have taken everything good about the series when he left to do superman. oh and your not a "nerd"( as hip it is these days to cal yourself one) if you like X men 3 , it makes you a poor sap. Welcome to likingacrapmoviesbecuaseitmightmakeyouseemlikea"cool"dorkyperson-VILLE population = YOU.

you all have terrible taste in movies and even worst taste in Comic books.

----- THIS COMMENT CONTAINS SPOILERS -----

How can you possibly say you're a comic nerd and you liked this movie. I'm so disgusted with this. As a movie, as a stand-alone movie, sure it was good. But as a comic book movie, a movie that is based off of a comic book, with decades of mythos, and stories, it was horrid. I let go a solid hour and a half of complete deviations, but then its as if during the last part of the script, they just said, "Hey fuck it! This is way too hard! Let's do whatever the fuck sounds good!" Maybe they eleviated some of the problems in that end of credits scene, but still. "Ok, the run down for the day guys. Cyclops is dead, Professor X is dead, Rogue still hasn't completely absorbed Ms. Marvel's powers, in face she no longer has her own, Mystique, human, Juggernaut, mutant that is randomly not related to the late Professor X. Hey let's toss some other things in there too, just to throw everyone off. Alrighty, I think we have a movie."

I saw the movie yesterday and i had a good time watching it. As a former long time fan of the comic x-men, spiderman, avengers etc., i still liked it. Okay, there are a few(or maybe more) things about the movie that have no relation with the comic, but if you focus on that too much, the whole movie is affected, and that wouldn't make it better. I can live with the changes that were made, although i don't know why colossus isn't talking with a russian accent. And shadowcat is really young, so pairing her with colossus is out of the question for X-men 4, but he, i am still going to watch that one when it hits the screen.

p.s. where are the pictures of famke janssen, as a fellow dutch citizen i would really like to see them.

Posted by: ishar at May 27, 2006 06:38 AM

What scene takes place after the closing credits? Can someone please email me?

Posted by: t-rod at May 27, 2006 01:24 PM

Are you all on drugs?

that movie was total crap!! Has nothing to do with the previous 2 films, its very poorly written, with zero to none knowledge of the characters or the stories of the x-men, poorly directed, with some terrible photography (i.e. the bridge scene) and bad acting, Halle Berry always is lost as Storm, but even the usually excellent Patrick Stewarts was bad here... craptastic movie!

Posted by: Au at May 27, 2006 05:14 PM

*** Spoiler ahead ***
Here's what happens after the credits (not even 10sec btw.)
We see the hospital room where the comma patient - previously shown during Charles lecture in the mansion - is lying and all of a sudden we hear Charles -> Charles transformed his mind into the comma patient, is therefore still very alive and hopefully around for a 4th take on the franchise.

And to the movie: it wasn't the best X-Men movie but it could have been a lot worse and I for once will forgive the many mistakes made, but only if there's a 4th movie with the writters from X2 and Bryan Singer directing it! Oh, and Rogue has to be back also, since the 'cure' obviously ain't working on Magneto it also won't work on her! I have spoken!

Posted by: mk at May 27, 2006 09:02 PM

There wasn't a way that this movie could have been conceivably worse. It was bad as a movie, terrible dialog, bad acting, terribly paced, which is almost impossible for an hour and a half movie, completely throw away characters, arch angel specifically, and bad action. As an X men movie it was offensive. They turned Wolverine into a little girl. He ran away from a man that threw his bones at him. Storm was never a leader and it took a hissy fit from Halle Berry to make whomever involved decide to kill Cyclops, an excellent character and the only leader in the field of the Xmen, and get Storm, who sucks both on screen and page, to get thrust into the spot light. The danger room was a waste, the cure storyline was stupid and poorly executed, they ignored whole story lines. It seems like they took some movie that has been sitting in turnaround for years, threw the Xmen's names on it, threw in some Xmen lines here and there and relied on a built in audience to make it money. The only saving grace was Kelsey Grammar as Beast, that was fantastic and I wish that they had utilized that strength more. I blame brett ratner wholly and completely for this. I sat in the theatre angry and dejected, this movie broke my heart. Please Egotastic, I love pictures of girls that are attractive, do that, you're good at it. Leave the movie reviews to others.

Posted by: brandon at May 28, 2006 07:00 AM

Thanks for the spoiler. Yes I agree about X-Men 4 (if it will be made). Bryan Singer has to be the director. Screw Ratner! He thought this was Rush Hour 3 or some crap like that...Hey Ratner do you understand the words that are coming out of my computer!

Posted by: t-rod at May 28, 2006 02:28 PM

3 was a real disappointment, but it had a few moments of goodness...i hope, if there is a 4th, Rattner has nothing to do with it.

Posted by: Dodge at May 28, 2006 06:08 PM

Wow...I'm glad this isn't a film critiquing website. This movie wasn't half as good as X2. Moreover, what character development are you talking about??? Angel, Kitty Pryde, Multiple Man, Colossus??? I could have cared less what happened to them at the end of the movie -- we didnt know a thing about them. I would definitely go and see it though if you saw the first 2. There are a few really incredible scenes worth watching.

Were u really classmates with Ellen Page in preschool?!! If so, were u
close
to her?

Are you still in contact with her? If you are, can you please tell
her that she's a great actress. And that I
look forward to seeing her in other movies.

Thanks.

oh and if any of u wanna watch the scene after the credits...

It's not so clear but all u gotta do is listen really closely

Posted by: bboy at May 31, 2006 02:07 AM

who ever it was that said this movie was "crap" ... i second or third or whatever.
i have been a comic fan for some time, and maybe thats my problem, you cant kill off the coolest people, or take there powers ways! sorry i just hated it! kill one main ch. ok ill take that like in X2 but ... what they did and the Rogue power thing, come on shes one of the coolest as well as hottest young X-Men for a spinoff. yeah i stand by it... it sucked

LG

Posted by: liquidgrowl1 at May 31, 2006 03:24 PM

SO LOVED this version ... but Rouge has to come back - she rocks! They need an XMEN Next Generation for sure - I could care less about Storm coming back ... but the rest of the crew can so pull it off!

Posted by: Clo at May 31, 2006 03:33 PM

it wasnt all that bad. i mean, yeh, some bits were a bunch of crap, and the story wasnt exactly comic book accurate, but in all fairness, some bits were pretty good. but what happenes when leech gets near wolverine? itd kill him!

Posted by: reviewr at May 31, 2006 05:45 PM

Overall I was entertained. despite some cheesy lines and the short length there were some great wisecracks, amazing action sequences and one really HOT scene (Wolverine and Jean) plus the after credits scene was worth waiting for.

PS. In Europe they get a different after credit scene involving the three memorial/grave sites...

i am in the uk and i got the Xavier hospital scene

Posted by: ste mc at June 4, 2006 11:59 AM

I liked the movie as a whole. Entertaining, but sometimes too much focused on the wrong charakters.
Colossus should have been in the picture more often and longer. The fact that he appeared in X2 made me believe he gets a more significant role in X3 which I was looking forward to. It seems it all pointed to the stupid throwing scene with Sideburn-Man that they wanted to show, because it happenes in the comics pretty often. I would have liked to see a close-up on how his skin changes, how strong he is (everybody can carry a stupid TV under one arm) and maybe an explanation where he got his motivation from to join the school. In addition to that, I believe that Phoenix looked too much like an alien. She should have had fire in her eyes and not a face like a mask from UNDERWORLD. Well, they work on budgets but so does GM. Mistakes are made due to a lack of funds. I still believe the fan community will be able to take this mess and still see X4 in large numbers.
