You can call this the biggest no-brainer spin-off of all time. It has been officially announced that Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role of the Wolverine, and he will also be a producer on the film of the same name. I think the Wolverine movie has a lot of promise, since the character's back-story is one of the most intriguing in comic book history, and because Wolverine is one of the only X-Men characters that can carry an entire film. Let's just hope that Brett Ratner won't be directing that one too.
Here's what Jackman had to say about the X-Men 3, and the new Wolverine spin-off:
"It got to be a roller-coaster ride there, but I wasn't worried because the script is so strong," Jackman said. "Matthew had his reasons but helped make the movie better before he left. Brett has come in with a lot of enthusiasm and full understanding of the franchise. It has been a real learning curve, as has been putting together the script on 'Wolverine.' That project is a good start for me as producer, because I have intimate knowledge of the character."
I think the X-Men franchise would do well to end after the upcoming third film. It's highly unlikely that the entire cast will return, and new actors will be a fairly big adjustment. I say the next spin-off should be about a young Charles Xavier and Magneto, and how they became enemies. That would rock.
