Gwyneth Paltrow Just Keeps Drinking

It was a little odd to hear about Gwyneth Paltrow drinking a Guinness yesterday, but apparently Guinness is supposed to be good for pregnant women because it has a lot of iron. And if I remember my high school biology class correctly, having a baby is a lot like building a house.

But now it looks like Gwyneth's drinking during her pregnancy isn't as benevolent as one might think. According to The New York Daily News (again), Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted drinking several glasses of red wine

After yesterday's item that pregnant Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted downing Guinness with dinner on Tuesday, a reader tells me: "I sat next to her and Chris Martin at Lupa on Thompson Street [Wednesday] night; she had two or three glasses of wine in the time that I was there, and I left when they were partway through the main course."

While Guinness contains iron that can be good for a pregnancy, drinking wine when you're five months along is a tad more controversial.

Gwyneth and Chris were looking very much in love at a corner table in the back room of the popular SoHo restaurant, run by Mario Batali.

Continues the spy: "She looked gorgeous as usual, with the pregnant 'glow.' Her face did look large though, which, according to my superstitious Italian friend who was with me, means she is having a girl, since face changes during pregnancy mean a female child."

Uh oh, I hear a Britney Spears style child endangerment case brewing. Can they charge you for endangering an unborn child? Anyway, I'm sure there's some study somewhere that says wine is okay during pregnancy. I hear those French wine-making associations have a crack research team. Or maybe celebrities really are better than everyone else. That would totally explain everything.

Paget Brewster in Playboy? She's Thinking About It

So I'm watching Conan O'Brien (right now as a matter of fact) and Paget Brewster is one of the guests. I've always been a fan of Paget Brewster, so that was a nice surprise. Of course, I wasn't paying too much attention, until Paget asked Conan if she should pose for Playboy...

Hello! That got my attention, but fast. Now, not many people know who Paget Brewster is, but let me tell you, she is a hot tottie. If you've seen Andy Richter Controls the Universe or her current show, Huff, in which she plays Hank Azaria's wife, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, she was saying that normally she wouldn't do that kind of thing, ie: take her clothes off in front of a camera, but she said she might pose for playboy since they have the best photo re-touchers. Also, if she were to pose nude, she said she would want to do it before it all "goes south," as she put it. Conan then suggested she should go in with a solid asking price, namely $250,000 in Gold Krugerands (?). Who knows if she was serious (probably not) but by the end of the interview, she was saying she would.

Natalie Portman is in Toronto

My therapist told me that I need to get out more. I should pursue various interest, maybe go to the gym. But I think that's a little too much work, just to help me avoid a restraining order from Natalie Portman. Sure, I know it will help when I go to the hearing, but all I want to do is drive down to Toronto and punch Dustin Hoffman for being so close to Natalie Portman. She's mine dammit! She's Mine!

I mean.... Natalie Portman is currently in Yorkville in Toronto filming her new movie Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, with Dustin Hoffman. Here's a brief plot outline courtesy of IMDB.

Molly Mahoney (Portman) is the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, the 243 year-old eccentric who owns the store (Hoffman), bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable Emporium.

Gwyneth Paltrow Likes Her Drink

It's all well and good when a 21-year-old like Keira Knightley enjoys her pint (if maybe a bit much), but when you hear that Gwyneth Paltrow was seen drinking a Guinness during her pregnancy, it tends to make one pause. According to The New York Daily News, Gwyneth was seen at New York's lower East Side sushi bar Cube 63, where she and husband Chris Martin of Coldplay were seen drinking at the table.

"People were looking and waving, and she just tried to melt further into the corner," according to one witness, who said she ordered salad and what appeared to be sushi.

Diners in the 30-seat restaurant observed Martin exit the BYOB joint to pick up several bottles of the Irish stout Guinness at a nearby deli. And they were surprised when Paltrow, who is five months pregnant with the couple's second child, drank one herself.

Paltrow is famous for her rigorous macrobiotic diet, although she altered it the last time she was pregnant, with her daughter, Apple. Some experts recommend a little Guinness for expecting mothers, because of the brew's high iron content.

Her rep confirmed she drank the alcoholic beverage, but said she ate only cooked food, not sushi.

So, I guess that's okay, then? I mean, her publicists even acknowledged she was drinking, so we can't even blame them for spinning the story... Of course, I'm sure there's a study somewhere that says it's perfectly fine to do crack in your third trimester, but you always want to check if those kinds of studies were comissioned by the National Crack Council, or Whitney Houston. You know, so that it's not biased.

Keira Knightley Likes Her Drink

Now that Keira Knightley has turned 21, she's free and legal to drink pretty much anywhere in the world (though maybe not in Afghanistan). So what better way to celebrate than by going on a month long booze cruise? That's right, according to Life Style Extra, Keira Knightley's new boyfriend, Rupert Friend is treating her to a tour of the best bars in the US.

He is said to have splashed out on a luxury yacht and a jet to take Keira to bars around New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Hollywood and Hawaii.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "It's such an original idea. She's been so busy filming 'Pirates of the Caribbean 3' and 'Silk' back-to-back, she needs a break and time with Rupert."

The screen beauty - who celebrated her birthday at a 1920s themed bash at London's Paper nightclub on Sunday (26.03.06) - couldn't wait to reach the milestone birthday so she could drink alcohol with her pals in the US.

She recently said: "It seems ridiculous. Over here I can drink myself silly.

"But I go back to my adolescence when I'm shooting in America. I'm on the Shirley Temples while my mates are getting pissed."

Ah, it's always nice to see a budding alcoholic in the making. It would be nice if she didn't follow the example of most other Hollywood starlets. Sure she's British, so she probably has a little edge in the whole drinking game, but that doesn't seem to have helped Sienna Miller...

Sharon Stone, and Other Reasons Not to See Basic Instinct 2

Even though there have been ads for Basic Instinct 2 on this blog, that doesn't mean I'm a slave to corporate interests. You might expect to read a favourable review, but I think regardless of all the media hype and advertising, there really aren't going to be any. In fact, I'm probably not even going to be seeing this movie, and here are some reasons why...

According to Page Six, the movie is just plain bad (Gee, who would have guessed). The dialogue is ridiculous, and of course, Sharon Stone really doesn't look that good.

Maybe Sharon Stone should have listened to those who thought "Basic Instinct 2" was a bad idea. At the premiere Monday night, audience members kept cracking up at inappropriate times, like when Stone intones, "Not even Oedipus saw his mother coming!" "The only thing worse than the dialogue were Sharon's implants," shrieked one wag. During the full-frontal nude scene, Stone's bosom seemed lopsided. But nary a negative word was uttered at the after-party at Mr. Chow sponsored by Dior.

And for those of you who just want to see it for the sex, well, you're going to be dissapointed too. Best Week Ever points to this but on Ain't It Cool News that says that there really isn't that much sex in the movie after all.

...if you’ve seen the internet ‘trailer’, then you’ve actually seen 75% more sex than is actually in the film. Virtually every frame of sex and nudity that appears in Basic Instinct 2, you’ve already seen. Let that sink in for a moment. I’ll wait. Yes, there are exactly three sex scenes in this movie. One with a single nipple and some bobbing man ass. Another with a single nipple and some bobbing man ass. And a third, with two exposed nipples, and yes, dare I say it, more bobbing man ass. That semi hot looking threesome in the ‘trailer’? Never actually appears in the film - the third person in that three-way…never actually appears in the film. And outside of the sex, there is one, single, gratuitous nude scene. Of Sharon Stone. All told, there is perhaps 20-30 seconds of actual sexual content in this film.

In fact, I think we mentioned a while back that there was a ton of nudity in the movie you wouldn't be seeing. Ah yes, "The Sharon Stone nude scene you won't see. Hint: There's an Orgy" is what is what called. Of course, we also told you that the nude scenes are disturbing, so it's not like this is anything particularly new.

At any rate, I sincerely hope that's it with the Basic Instinct news. And that Sharon Stone really won't return for Basic Instinct 3 (But maybe Sienna Miller will). Even I'm getting tired of it now. But just in case you have some sado-msichistic need to scare yourself repeatedly, here are some more pictures of Sharon Stone looking rather scary.
