FUNNY

January comedies are a notorious trap with trailers bating audiences into thinking a film is going to be a laugh riot when, in actuality, all of the best jokes are found in the trailer. Still, I have somewhat high hopes for the upcoming flick Like a Boss, which features two of the best actresses working in comedy today—Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne—along with Salma Hayek, Billy Porter, and lots of other familiar faces.
The film's red band trailer gives away a whole new assortment of jokes, many of which made me laugh, but it also fills me with dread that we've now seen all of the film's funniest stuff. Even still, one holdover joke from the ubiquitous green band trailer is here again and never ceases to make me laugh. It comes when the ladies have to fire Billy Porter and he does the "Witness. My. Tragic. Moment" bit before striking a tragic pose at the restaurant window. I know I could just watch that on a loop, but I almost have to see this movie just for that scene alone.
While it's highly likely we've now seen all of the film's funniest bits—including that one where it looks like the baby is smoking a joint—I can't help but hold out hope that this will be funny. Like a Boss hits theaters on January 10.
